Peter Stein has more than 10 years of experience in government, political, and policy organizations, and has a wide range of expertise in health care. Prior to BMA, he held senior government relations roles with the American Podiatric Medical Association, PhRMA and the nation’s largest association representing professional benefits specialists. In these capacities Peter helped lead the organizations’ legislative strategy, policy development and political programs. He previously worked as Senior Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), where he provided policy and political counsel to the Senator on health care, tax, pensions and other issues. Among his legislative projects were the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act that established the Medicare prescription drug benefit, the Medicare Advantage program and Health Savings Accounts. Peter holds a bachelor’s degree in American Government from Georgetown University, and a master’s degree in Political Management from George Washington University.
